As Chief Operating Officer, Bob will report directly to Piston Group Founder, Chairman and CEO Vinnie Johnson and assume operational oversight of Piston Group companies: Piston Interiors LLC, A Lava & Sons, LLC, Detroit Thermal Systems, LLC and Piston Automotive, LLC.

All four company presidents will report to Bob and Vinnie, who will continue to have responsibility and authority for the day-to-day and general management, control, supervision, administration and operational affairs and business of Piston Group and each of its companies.

Previously, Bob was appointed President of Piston Automotive, LLC, in January 2019. His responsibilities included the development and execution of the company’s strategy, operations of 10 U.S. based manufacturing locations, business development, engineering, and leading over 1,000 team members.

Bob joined Piston Automotive in 2007 as Director of Sales and Program Management and held various other positions including Vice President and General Manager. Bob has been an integral member of Piston’s leadership team and was directly involved in the company’s product and diversification activities resulting in exponential growth of +$1.9B over the last 10 years. Bob’s tenure at Piston Automotive has been focused on manufacturing expansion and relocation by successfully launching eight U.S. based facilities during his leadership to support new business growth.

Prior to joining Piston Automotive, Bob was an employee of Ford Motor Company for 10 years. During his time at Ford, he worked in functional areas including Product Engineering, Program Management, Quality and Ford’s Customer Service Division.

Bob holds bachelor’s degrees in physics from Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Mich. and mechanical engineering from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich. He earned his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Bob resides in Plymouth, Michigan, is a sports enthusiast and enjoys spending time with his three children, friends, and extended family.
